Several of the chemicals used to make meth are toxic, as are some of the by-products that can cause significant health hazards wherever they are dumped; thus, meth labs represent a biohazard not only to those making the drug but to nearby residents as well (Halkitis, 2009). Meth users are also at risk for a number of health complications that we review in Contemporary Issue Box 6.
