Although none of these variants appears to have prognostic implications, the small cell variant appears to be associated more often with systemic dissemination and leukemic peripheral blood involvement at presentation. The diagnosis of these rare lymphomas in children is often delayed or initially interpreted as a reactive process or as one of the more common pediatric lymphomas.
